Performance
Learning music does not end in childhood. MTAC offers the Adult Performance program for adult students and teachers.
Initiated in 1933, Certificate of Merit® provides a standardized music curriculum for musical excellence in performance, technique, ear training, sight reading/singing and music theory.
The goal of this program is to encourage students to create their own music by applying their musical vocabulary, technique and theory skills and express musical ideas to audiences or fellow performers in real time.
Students perform a solo or concerto movement before a panel of judges in a highly competitive setting.
VOCE is a prestigious competition for vocalists, strings, winds/brass, and chamber music at the Regional and State levels.
The Young Artist Guild is a group of the most gifted musicians in the Certificate of Merit® program. Acceptance to YAG is one of the highest honors for Certificate of Merit® students.
Composition
The Composers Today program fosters creativity through composition by both students and teachers.
The Young Composers Guild (YCG) is the highest achievement that a Composers Today composition student in high school (grades 10–12) can attain.
Convention Programs
Contemporary Music Recital presents a recital of works composed after 1945 at the Annual MTAC State Conventions.
The goals of the MTAC Convention Honors Ensemble are to provide a celebratory experience for the MTAC community and merit-based recognition to MTAC students.
This program provides students the unique opportunity to collaborate with the composer of the piece, and demonstrates the importance of playing music not only from the past but also music being created by today’s composers.
It invites MTAC teacher members to perform live on the MTAC Convention stage.
